This is a lovely vintage brass tortoise box. The tortoise shell opens to reveal a hidden space. It was most likey an ashtray originally, would make a lovely trinket box or pin tray for little treasures.
It is in fairly good vintage condition, some tarnish to the brass. Please see images.
